Cannon Design Partnership

In 1993 Cannon Design was selected to partner with City Honors High School. The ranges of activities since then have included planning design projects with multi-grade teams; participation in the teacher and principal for a day programs; classroom discussions on special topic areas and career options; sponsorship of the City Honors school newspaper, including mentoring students on current computerized graphics and desktop publishing techniques; sponsoring/mentoring students in Science Olympiad; creating/promoting student internships; facilitating students in independent study courses; sponsoring students’ and athletes’ travel costs; and sponsorship of the City Honors School Foundation.

The Cannon Design staff has devoted staff hours, as well as material supplies and equipment for use by the school. If a student displays interest and effort to participate, suitable mentors have been found to build relationships at the personal level. For example, a few students have even pursued college degrees in architecture and engineering in part due to the long-standing public/private relationship. Cannon Design has played an important role in perpetuating City Honor’s rich tradition as one of Western New York’s premier schools. Each year, Cannon Design has sponsored a Resident’s Award to help defray some of the college cost for a student selected by the faculty for embodying academic and creative excellence.
